Brass Colander Ladles and Soup Spoons

Ladles

In ancient times ladles were often made from plants such as calabash or even seashells. We decided that brass is perfect for us for a ladle. And so we worked with Ruka Kikuchi (also known by his nickname Lue) who makes homewares out of brass in the Japanese city of Setouchi for the lives of ordinary people. His deepest hope is that every time one of his items is picked up and used, it brings great pleasure and will last for many years.

He makes these spoons by hammering a form for the mouth of the spoon (out of one sheet of brass) and cuts a long strip for the handle, attaching them together by welding. His items feature unique markings, such as little scratches and hammer marks where the craftsman has been at work - which is just the way we see the world, imperfectly perfect. 

Use and Care: As time progresses you'll find that this spoon will patina and darken as the metal oxidises, also reacting to the natural oils on one's hands.
