There is a manuscript, the ‘Tantu Pagelaran,’ that explains the mythical origins of the Indonesian island, Java where we find ourselves - and legend has the adventure as follows: Lord Shiva orders gods Brahma and Vishnu to fill this island with mere humans, but as Java is floating freely in the ocean, tumbling and shaking, they need to nail it down, so they bring a part of the mountain Mahameru from India. But, it tilts the island and part of it starts to break off, creating the iconic volcanoes. Shiva loves this enchantment, where the realm of mortals connects with svarga (the realm of gods), so he moves right in. It is with this little hint of magic that we source our hand carved wood products - from a solid block of durable suar wood (tree farmed wood ubiquitous throughout the Indonesian archipelago).
Use and Care: Finished in food grade oil, but wash this carefully by hand. Time will add fissures and weather the color.
