Smooth stone tray

There is a manuscript, the ‘Tantu Pagelaran,’ that explains the mythical origins of the Indonesian island, Java where we find ourselves - and legend has the adventures follows: Lord Shiva orders gods Brahma and Vishnu to fill this island with mere humans, but as Java is floating freely in the ocean, tumbling and shaking, they need to nail it down, so they bring a part of the mountain Mahameru from India. But, it tilts the island and part of it starts to break off, creating the iconic volcanoes. Shiva loves this enchantment, where the realm of mortals connects with svarga (the realm of gods), so he moves right in. These trays are cut, sanded and polished from found river boulders - the weight is an homage to the gods, showing respect for what came before us.
